The possible surrender of Abu Sayyaf spokesman Abu Sabaya could
not put an end to this rebel terrorist group, the Philippine
military said Friday.
"Abu Sabaya is not the leader of the Abu Sayyaf. He's just one
man," a Philippine Daily Inquirer on-line report quoted
PhilippineArmy spokesperson Colonel Jose Mabanta as saying.
The military believes that Khaddafy Janjalani, whose whereabouts
are unknown, is the leader of Abu Sayyaf elements in southern island
of Basilan.
In a letter to the Philippine government, Abu Sabaya promised to
release the hostages, including the American couple if the military
ceases offensive against his group and starts a negotiation.
