Article: WTO Ministers Adopt Agenda for New Free Trade Talks

Ministers of the 142 World Trade Organization (WTO) members agreed here Wednesday to launch a broadround of multilateral trade talks on issues ranging from agriculture to services and to environment.

At a plenary session, they adopted by acclamation a ministerialdeclaration containing a so-called Doha development agenda for thenew trade round.

"With the growing uncertainty and instability in the global economy following the September 11, I'm extremely happy that we can send out a positive message to the world," Japanese Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Takeo Hiranuma told the session.
