It looks like a B2 stealth bomber in the distance, a black
diamond ominously cutting through cloud cover.
Its speed can approach 200 mph in a dive.
Riding the currents, it coasts closer to the Yakima River, and
the plumed white head and tail betray the bald eagle.
Denny Granstrand chokes back a cry of delight.
Here at the Yakima River Greenway, one of Yakima's most zestful
birdaholics has no problem finding examples of the threatened
species for a pair of journalists.
At the Audubon Society's annual Christmas count, the number of
eagle sightings in Yakima County doubled from the previous year,
from 11 to 22.
