That Chad Atkins had never boxed before last weekend's Toughman contest didn't make him any less of a threat to win the heavyweight championship. He had long ago demonstrated just how tough he is.

That he actually lost a match on the way to winning the Toughman title perhaps shouldn't have been a surprise, either. It wouldn't be the first time he'd been told he was done ... and become a champion.

That Atkins was anonymous enough to have his name thoroughly botched from start to finish by promoters - who announced him as "Big Bad Brad" throughout most of the event and then reported his name as Chad Acton to local media - was perhaps not surprising.
