MAZAMA, Wash. (AP) - A conservation organization has bought 1,020
acres in the scenic Methow Valley for about $17 million, with a
plan to limit development to a few home sites instead of the ski
resort once envisioned there.
The Trust for Public Land has been working since last spring to
line up financing to buy the property from Seattle developer R.D.
Merrill Co.
"Today, after a long struggle and an incredible effort on the
part of so many people, we can all celebrate the protection of one
of the most beautiful and precious pieces of land anywhere in North
America," Craig Lee, a trust executive, said Tuesday.
