SUNNYSIDE - Washington Hills Cellars will ring in the new year
without its tasting room.
The winery will close its tasting room and gift shop on Dec. 31.
It's also letting its membership with the Yakima Valley Winery
Association lapse.
The closure means the loss of six jobs at the winery, 111 E.
Lincoln Ave. The news shocked employees, who found out last
Wednesday they'll be looking for work after the holidays.
"I came back from Christmas shopping and I had no job," said Kim
DeVine, retail and event manager. "The whole winery was very
shocked."
According to winery president and chief executive officer Harry
Alhadeff, the shutdown and association membership lapse is
temporary.
