Yakima County District Court Commissioner Don Engel will lose his
job at the end of March, a victim of county budget reductions
brought on by Initiative 695.
The court's four judges made the decision to eliminate the court
commissioner position.
"We knew we had to cut something. That spot was one of the cuts,"
the 40-year-old Engel said Wednesday.
In all, three county employees lost their jobs after county
commissioners adopted a 2000 budget that included more than $2
million in cuts. The other losses are in the Auditor's Office, where
Auditor Doug Cochran eliminated two positions when he cut the hours
his office sells license tabs.
