Raising a heavy evacuation litter up a steep, rocky hillside comes more easily for members of the Central Washington Mountain Rescue unit than raising money for equipment. Yet, as 17 members of the group practiced rescue skills under the most demanding of conditions on a recent Saturday, a problem more perplexing than the Tieton cliffs loomed over their heads.

"We're really desperate to get some funds to replace our truck," said Ted Rapasky, past president of the unit.
