SPOKANE (AP) - A deal has been reached to preserve about 1,100
acres in the scenic Methow Valley and end a 40-year land dispute,
an environmental group said Wednesday.
The deal calls for the Trust for Public Land to find five buyers
to each purchase about 200 acres of the Early Winters Property from
owner R.D. Merrill Co. of Seattle by Aug. 14.
"This agreement would prevent this area from becoming the next
Aspen or weekend condominium development," said Craig Lee, vice
president of the Trust for Public Land, a private, nonprofit land
conservation group.
For four decades, the land has been proposed for projects such as
condominiums and a destination ski resort. ...
