The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will review whether two
populations of the Western sage grouse in Washington should be put
on the endangered species list.
The federal agency, acting on a request from an environmental
group, announced Thursday that it will launch what could be a two-
year process to determine whether the Western sage grouse needs to
be listed.
Fish and Wildlife biologists will have to talk with grouse
specialists and study the bird to see if they are truly in danger,
said agency biologist Chris Warren.
The Northwest Ecosystem Alliance contends the number of sage
grouse has become dangerously low because their habitat is
