Two Northwest apple packing and marketing companies are betting they have a new market for Washington apples in the bag.

The firms, working independently of one another, have been selling bagged apple slices nationwide in food-service and retail outlets for more than two months.

The slices are sold in a variety of bag sizes and larger trays for food service, and should start appearing in some Albertson's and Thriftway supermarkets in Yakima for the first time this week.
