beleaguered apple growers

Two Northwest apple packing and marketing companies are betting
they have a new market for Washington apples in the bag.
The firms, working independently of one another, have been
selling bagged apple slices nationwide in food-service and retail
outlets for more than two months.
The slices are sold in a variety of bag sizes and larger trays
for food service, and should start appearing in some Albertson's and
Thriftway supermarkets in Yakima for the first time this week.
Neither Price Cold Storage and Packing Co. of Yakima nor a joint
venture of the Medford, Ore.-based Naumes Inc. and Dovex Fruit Co.
