Yakima County's unemployment rate decreased slightly in the month
of September from a year ago, while Washington state has seen its
largest decrease for the month of September in 20 years.
The jobless rate in the county last month was 6.3 percent, down
from 6.9 percent a year ago and from 8.8 percent in August,
according to figures released Tuesday by the state Employment
Security Department.
"The drop is consistent with the heightened agricultural activity
related to the apple harvest," said Gary Kamimura, senior analyst
