Does Granny Smith Have Kin in Yakima?
Does Granny Smith REALLY have grandchildren in Washington? We'll
find out Sunday when the winner of the Washington Apple Commission's
1999 Granny Smith is crowned.
And if it turns out to be Charlotte Grasmick of Lutherville, Md.,
the answer is a resounding yes.
Grasmick is one of 20 finalists in the contest to name the next
Granny Smith, during the Apple Blossom Festival in Wenatchee, Friday-
Sunday. She happens to be the only finalist who has grandchildren
living in Washington.
Grasmick's grandchildren, Michelle, 16, and Ryker, 3, live in
Yakima with their parents, Lynda and Thomas Mackey. Lynda is
