Steeped in recollections, filled with details from 1847 to the
present and punctuated with old pictures and current drawings, a new
book chronicles a part of Catholic history in Yakima. Published in
March, "Two Spires for Yakima," relates the story of St. Joseph
Church, from early days at the Ahtanum Mission in 1847 to current
events.
The Rev. Neill Meany, who works with the Ministry at Large for
the Yakima Diocese, is author of the 55-page book. Anecdotes about
the first Jesuits in the Valley, original pump organs, the cost of
the Sacred Heart Altar for St. Joseph Church ($114), the effects of
Vatican II and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe fill the book.
