I expect the question on most readers' minds is: "Why do I need a book about "The Birds of Yakima County'?" After all, there are many good field guides that will allow me to identify any bird I am likely to see here, as well as anywhere else in the United States or Canada.

The answer is: "A lot of reasons." Andrew Stepniewski's book is not a field guide. With the exception of the cover and several maps, there are no color pictures and only a handful of drawings (which is a shame, since they are beautiful additions).
