Article: District court race -- Myrna Contreras Supports Ruth Reukauf

Defeated in the three-way primary race for a Yakima County District Court bench seat, Myrna Contreras has thrown her support behind current court Commissioner Ruth Reukauf.

"Essentially, she's been a District Court judge for three years, just without the title," Contreras said at a Monday news conference announcing her support for Reukauf.

Contreras finished third in the primary, sending Reukauf and Yakima County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney David Sherman to a showdown in November's general election.

Sherman garnered 14,256 votes in the primary, or about 52 percent. Reukauf captured 8,497 votes for about 31 percent. Contreras, a Yakima attorney, received 4,561 votes, or about 16 percent.
