Article: HUD Halts Tribal Housing Authority Funds -- Federal agency says financial problems prompt suspension of money for projects

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has suspended funds for new and ongoing projects by the Yakama Nation Housing Authority.

A HUD spokeswoman said Tuesday the housing authority failed to comply with the federal agency's order to get its financial books in order. The federal agency suspended all funds on Friday. "They are up against the wall. They have to get these things done, or they're not going to be able to spend any more money, nor will they get their funding for the next fiscal year," said Cori Senechal, a HUD spokeswoman.
