Article: Big East must focus on landing better bowl deals

WITH Big East football seeking to sort out who's where in a second straight season of apparent balance, the conference is in flux otherwise, too, with future bowl negotiations on the horizon.

The Big East is expected to name a successor to retiring Commissioner Mike Tranghese before Christmas. The third boss in league history (dating to 1979) will be a point man in trying to land bigger and better bowl deals for the conference.

"We're always working on those relationships with the bowls," said Nick Carparelli, the big East associate commissioner for football operations. "We see (bowl executives) all of the time and talk with them.
