Charleston's mayoral candidates traded barbs Thursday over the
fate of the city's Municipal Auditorium, with one saying, "Keep it,"
and the other saying, "Think about selling it."
Republican Kent S. Hall blasted Democratic opponent Jay Goldman
and GOP council candidate Ted Armbrecht for suggesting the 59-year-
old structure be sold.
"When I read Jay Goldman's and Ted Armbrecht's proposal that the
city of Charleston sell the Charleston Municipal Auditorium to fund
the city's $5.5 million pledge to the Center for the Arts and
Science, I winced," Hall, a former mayor, said at a press conference
held in front of the auditorium.
