If there is a section of Charleston with a suburban feel, it is
Kanawha City. With its quiet, tree-lined streets and well-kept
homes, Kanawha City's closely knit neighborhoods are a source of
pride and comfort to its residents.
They are residents who, for the most part, want to keep it that
way.
"Kanawha City people have a capacity to marshal a lot of effort in
a very short time," said City Councilman Bill Kimberling, who
represents one of Kanawha City's three wards.
When state and federal officials wanted to route Interstate 77
through the middle of Kanawha City, residents rallied a force of
