If there is a section of Charleston with a suburban feel, it is Kanawha City. With its quiet, tree-lined streets and well-kept homes, Kanawha City's closely knit neighborhoods are a source of pride and comfort to its residents.

They are residents who, for the most part, want to keep it that way. "Kanawha City people have a capacity to marshal a lot of effort in a very short time," said City Councilman Bill Kimberling, who represents one of Kanawha City's three wards.
