Article: Workers begin rolling out the carpet for auto show: Civic Center road trip to feature more than 300 autos Friday through Sunday

It doesn't look like much yet. But by Thursday, two dozen professional stagehands and carpet layers will have transformed the Charleston Civic Center into a scaled-down version of the major auto shows that play Detroit and Philadelphia.

Crews will spend about 60 hours unloading and setting up the contents of 30 semitrailers in time for Thursday's sneak preview of the 1999 West Virginia International Auto Show. The show opens to the public on Friday and runs through Sunday. The West Virginia Automobile and Truck Dealers Association, the show's primary sponsor, estimates it will cost more than $500,000 to stage. Charleston Newspapers is also a sponsor.
