Next week, Charleston City Council will be asked to vote on a
Kanawha City ice rink with a price tag of exactly $3 million.
But officials at neighboring Watt Powell Park aren't happy with
the way plans are turning out.
"They're taking up basically the whole parking lot, and there's
not enough parking now," said Dave Houchins, one of several co-
owners
of the Charleston Alley Cats baseball team. "We're hoping that they
come up with some alternate plans."
Houchins and Alley Cats General Manager Tim Bordner said baseball
officials were initially neutral about city plans to build an ice
rink in the parking lot next to the ballpark. Both agree Charleston
needs a skating facility. ...
