HAVE you heard about the man who paid for his own hysterectomy? It did happen, according to a West Virginia story. You might already know the punch line, if you've had a similar experience. It seems that when a male patient was billed for an operation he obviously could not have had, the hospital told him he had to pay up or lose his credit rating. So he paid.

Don't assume that such experiences are atypical. A few months ago, my wife pulled a muscle while working in our back yard and found herself immobilized in excruciating pain. She managed to get a neighbor to help her to the house, then to the hospital. She received good service and has recovered completely.
