PONTIAC, Mich. - Marshall knows it cannot afford to start slow in the Motor City Bowl the way it did against Western Michigan in the Mid-American Conference championship game.

"If we let it go for 30 minutes, we'll get run out of Detroit right there," said Marshall wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer. "We've got to be on top of our game from the first kickoff to the last snap."

Only three times all season has Marshall fallen behind an opponent, and that happened in the first half of its final three games. Success came only after the coaching staff made adjustments at halftime.
