Article: Civic Center requests may be granted anayway: ; Planning ahead

Charleston Civic Center officials said Tuesday night that they planned for $1 million more in renovations than the city could afford because they expected the city's hotel/motel tax to be increased.

When the tax increase never happened, they said, the extra items were never taken out because of a lack of communication between the Civic Center board, City Council and the Kemp Melton administration.

Current city officials aren't sure they buy that explanation. Still, they appear willing to give Civic Center directors just about everything they want.
