Proposals to "salvage" damaged trees in Kanawha State Forest are on hold indefinitely, state Division of Forestry officials say.

Charles "Randy" Dye, director of the Division of Forestry, said, "Gov. Underwood has made it clear to the agency that he wants Kanawha State Forest to remain uncut.

"The West Virginia Division of Forestry has no plans to seek a change in state law that prohibits the sale of timber from Kanawha State Forest. The West Virginia Division of Forestry has no plans to sell timber from Kanawha State Forest."

For 20 years, state law has prohibited all logging in the state forest, only 10 minutes from downtown Charleston.
