Domestic violence is responsible for a third of murders in West
Virginia, yet some candidates for governor say there is not much
they can do.
"I don't think there is a whole lot the government can do to get
into a home situation to prevent domestic violence between two
adults," said Democrat Jim Lees.
Republican Hughes Booher said the governor should work with
social agencies, churches and existing groups. The solution is "not
more government, it's frankly less government working through
private agencies," he said.
For Democrat Fred Schell, the issue boils down to human
relationships.
"People need to learn how to treat each other better," he said.
