Article: City planning commission lifts restrictions on Brick Oven Bistro

Owners of the Brick Oven Bistro on Charleston's East End can now stay open just as late as their neighbors.

Members of Charleston's Municipal Planning Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to lift restrictions placed on the restaurant when it opened it 1997.

No representatives from the restaurant came to the meeting, but East End City Councilman Fred Snuffer said the restaurant hasn't caused any problems.

"They have been very good neighbors," Snuffer said. "We haven't had any complaints."

East End residents were worried when the restaurant opened that another bar near the corner of Washington and Elizabeth streets would mean more crime and other problems.
