AMY Watkins was miserable the 10 days after her son, Jacob, was
born in July 2000. It wasn't until her newborn got sick and needed
surgery that she finally snapped out of her funk.
Her countless worries about her inability to care for Jacob
stopped. She no longer needed to take trips to her mother's house,
where she would just sit and cry.
"I was so worried about him, I didn't have time to worry about
me," she said.
The Clay County mom had the "baby blues," a limited depression
that afflicts about 80 percent of all new moms.
"It was the worst 10 days I've ever experienced," Watkins said.
"I've experienced sadness in my life, but this was more severe."
