One of the original owners of Charleston Cash Register Inc. put the firm up for bankruptcy protection Dec. 10, less than two months after seizing control of the company from the woman he sold it to a year ago.

John P. Bott is listed as the debtor on the company's bankruptcy papers, filed by lawyer Stephen L. Thompson of Barth, Thompson & George. Bott listed $531,700 in assets for the firm, all personal property such as inventory, trucks and a host of service contracts with small businesses and government agencies.

But the office machine supplier at 115 Spring St. listed more than $2.77 million in debt. The list of creditors, which runs 126 pages, includes a $373,000 loan ...
