Though members have come and gone after almost two decades, the
music of the mountains still resonates sweetly and strongly from the
strings and harmonies of Larry Lowe and Black Diamond.
The bluegrass band will mark its 20th anniversary next year, with
an already swelling calendar of performance dates in 2002. The group
also plans to host a bluegrass cruise on the P.A. Denny sternwheeler
on Sept. 7 in Charleston.
Larry Lowe of Chesapeake founded the band in 1982. "We became the
Black Diamond Bluegrass Band, because most of the members were coal
miners," he said.
Lowe, 50, was laid off from the mines in 1984 and has worked for
