Article: SARAJEVO: On film and in life, tales of a city once besieged

Annette Zavareei saw the film "Welcome to Sarajevo" soon after it came out in 1997, two years after she spent a summer working in Bosnian refugee camps.

"I thought it was incredibly accurate," said Zavareei, a counselor who since her visit has helped about 20 Bosnians immigrate to the United States. "I felt like I was back in the refugee camps listening to conversations. It showed the same kind of cynicism and morbid humor."

Zavareei will say a few words when the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of the Kanawha Valley Film Festival presents the movie at 7 p.m. Friday.
