While modern medicine can claim its share of miracles, no drug on
the American market can protect one of the body's most vital organs,
the liver, better than the herb milk thistle. German and British
studies show the supplement prevents toxic substances from
penetrating the liver and even repairs and regenerates damaged liver
cells. Approved for nonprescription use by Germany's Commission E
(the equivalent of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration), the seeds
of the spiny milk thistle fruit, which grows wild in parts of Europe
