WASHINGTON - Voters are intensely interested in making
prescription drugs more affordable for senior citizens. Most
politicians agree something needs to be done. And everybody from
presidential candidates to state lawmakers are scrambling aboard the
bandwagon. It all sounds like a formula for getting results, even
in an election year.
Election pressures could increase the odds of Congress' passing a
plan - but President Clinton has said he wants Republicans to go
further in providing benefits than they have offered so far.
To understand the political potency of the prescription drugs
issue, just listen to Nancy Ryman, a 72-year-old widow from Bay
City, Texas.
