SAN FRANCISCO - Eyewitnesses may be uncertain. Lawyers may
bungle. Cops may err. But a $10,000 Zeiss microscope is as close to
infallible as you can get. Besides a world of hurt, criminals often
leave behind traces of themselves - blood, hair and semen - that can
be used to convict them or to clear others falsely accused of their
misdeeds. DNA testing is the key that can unlock the door to the
truth in many of the toughest cases before our courts.
With the technology available in many cases to prove or disprove
