THE fight against breast cancer often attracts people who have
very personal reasons for getting involved with that cause. Janet
Proctor and Kathleen Walker are two such people. Proctor had a
simple mastectomy in January, while Walker's mother, Nancy Fox, is a
breast cancer survivor. The two women found each other through the
newly created West Virginia affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation, a national nonprofit organization that promotes
the eradication of breast cancer through research, education,
screening and treatment. Proctor, Walker and other volunteers have
teamed up on a May 14 whitewater rafting fund-raiser.
