WHEELING - The Charleston Daily Mail, The Journal in Martinsburg
and The Inter-Mountain in Elkins won the daily General Excellence
awards in the West Virginia Press Association's Better Newspaper
Contest for 1999 on Saturday. Weekly winners were The Times-Record
in Spencer, The Ritchie Gazette in Harrisville and The Princeton
Times.
The Daily Mail, competing in Division 1 for daily newspapers with
a circulation of 25,000 or more, led all winners with 16 first
places out of 34 categories.
The Journal topped Division 2, circulation 15,000 to 24,999, with
14 first places. Elkins' 12 firsts was the most in Division 3,
dailies with a circulation less than 15,000.
The Times-Record had nine firsts ...
