Some scenarios are difficult to imagine.
Like giving sixth-graders a choice of foods at school lunchtime,
then observing they will actually select and eat a variety of
nutritious items such as vegetables and grains rather than simply
load up on hamburgers. Or an 8-year-old cooking a risotto dish on
his own.
Yet both scenarios are true life and bear out what some parents
might find hard to believe: Kids are capable of making reasonable
food choices.
Maybe some adults aren't giving kids enough credit. A study
published earlier this year by the Journal of the American Dietetic
Association showed that Hastings, Neb., elementary schoolchildren in
third through sixth grades were able to make ...
