The Beginning

The young woman stirred as the sun rose over the valley where she, her husband, two small children and several others in her group were camped beside the river. It was late summer and the morning was cool and damp. Before leaving the shelter they had constructed several days earlier, she adjusted the animal skins covering her children as they slept. A short distance from the shelter a small fire burned. Her husband had placed several small logs on the embers and was busy working a black flint projectile point. The sounds from the swamp to the south of the camp hailed the new day.
