Double-neck guitar picker Deke Dickerson - who spent the
Thanksgiving holiday on the road with his band, the Ecco-Fonics -
has a bone to pick with folks who don't understand where he's coming
from. Musically, that is.
"There are so many really terrible rockabilly bands [who present]
a total cartoon, moron image," Dickerson said, over the phone - his
dime - 60 miles outside El Paso, Texas.
"The strangest thing I've seen written about us was, we were
called 'an intelligent rockabilly band' - an oxymoron. I have such a
great respect for the music. I'm not trying to be a retro act.
That's just the way I try to play it."
