Mae Belle Arrington Jones of Charleston will celebrate her 100th
birthday on Oct. 29. She was born in Terrell, Texas, in 1900. She
moved to McAlester, Okla., with her mother and sister in her early
teens, where she graduated as salutatorian of her high school class.
She entered Western University and completed a two-year vocational
course in home economics.
After graduation in 1922, Arrington taught school in a Methodist
boarding dormitory junior and senior high school in Oklahoma. In
1923, she accepted a position at Prairie View State College as
teacher of food and nutrition.
She earned her bachelor's degree from Prairie View State College
