Hot Mamas is a Motueka institution, so I took my mother there
when she visited.
We walked in one sunny morning, through the doors opened wide on
to the street. The crusty bunch of regulars was in the comfy wicker
chairs in the entrance. A dog slept serenely alongside.
We ordered coffee. Visitors to big-city cafes will know that the
ideal waiter or waitress is an impeccably groomed part-time model,
who sighs when you order, scowls when he or she delivers the coffee
and spends the remainder of the time flirting with the rest of the
impossibly gorgeous staff.
Hot Mamas has failed to pick up on this trend. The staff wear old
T-shirts, tattoos and piercings. They are usually smiling. They take ...
