Article: Nelson Mail's old news permanently preserved

Nelson's old news is going on to the Internet.

More than 8000 copies of the Nelson Evening Mail, as it was formerly known, from 1866 to 1900 will go online after the completion of a project by the National Library of New Zealand and Nelson's Elma Turner Library.

The website - www.paperspast.natlib.govt.nz - is to be officially launched in Nelson on Monday as part of national library week.

The Nelson newspapers on the website were taken from the Nelson Provincial Museum's collection.

Museum manager Hubert Klaassens said he was thrilled its most historic Nelson Evening Mails had been permanently preserved.
