Grower levy cuts , the demise of the Wool Board and a halt to
farmer-funded fibre promotion are a few of the key recommendations
made in the controversial $3 million McKinsey and Co report on the
wool industry.
Nelson wool growers listened to McKinsey principal Andrew Grant
outline 10 comprehensive points designed to shake up the industry.
He was joined by Meat New Zealand chairman John Ackland and the
region's Wool Board director Tim Enslor for the meeting held in
Tapawera.
The levy reduction -- from the current 5 percent to 1 percent --
is to fund a proposed industry body, Sheepco, which will concentrate
on research and development and on-farm skill and shearer training.
