Sir, Week after week, year after year the Nelson Mail publishes
the same old tired mass-circulation cartoons and comic strips. The
Far Side and Footrot Flats may have had their day, but that day
ended
10 years ago, and I don't think Garfield was ever funny.
Cut the spam! Instead of paying nothing for nothing, the Nelson
Mail should show some vision and commission local people to draw
cartoons for the paper. There are at least two cartoonists living
locally who have their work published in national magazines. In
addition, there are a large number of creative and talented young
people who could also be commissioned to produce work for the paper.
