WHICHEVER way you look at it, Barbara Taylor Bradford is a
substantial woman. Just look at the figures: 60 million copies of
her books in print, world-wide; GBP 11.6 million a year in earnings,
according to the most recent estimate, down GBP 7m on 1995, thus
knocking her off her pedestal as Britain's highest-earning woman
(Patsy Bloom, of Pet Plan insurance), but not exactly small change.
There is an apartment in Manhattan, a house in Connecticut, a Jeep
and a BMW. Then there are the 66 years and the couple of stones that
look surplus to a frame which, judging by her slim wrists and
ankles,
is delicate.
