THE Old Royal High School building in Edinburgh, once described
as
a "nationalist shibboleth" and rejected as the site of the Scottish
parliament, could become the symbolic home of Gaelic culture.
Informal talks have taken place between the City of Edinburgh
Council, the Government and Gaelic pressure groups to create a
cultural centre and Gaelic-medium school at the Calton Hill site.
The plan, put forward by an informal grouping of Gaelic
supporters, was given an enthusiastic welcome last night by the
minister for Gaelic, Brian Wilson.
The idea is to combine the planned Taigh na Gaidhlig language and
arts centre, which has attracted GBP 450,000 in Arts Council
funding,
with a Gaelic-medium ...
