Article: City road pricing scheme 'unlikely before 2005'

ROAD pricing will not be introduced in Edinburgh until millions of pounds worth of improvements have been made to public transport throughout the south-east of Scotland, David Begg, the city's transport convener, has promised.

His remarks come before the publication next week of a transport white paper which will set out plans for radical changes in policy.

Mr Begg said that new rail and bus systems would need to be established before restrictions, including charging drivers for entering the city, could be imposed.
