THE actor Saeed Jaffrey is to appear in Coronation Street as
television bosses yesterday announced the arrival of the soap's
first
Asian family.
Viewers will see the entrepreneurial Desais take over the corner
shop from Fred Elliott in the New Year.
In a coup for the programme, Jaffrey has been signed up to play
the head of the family, Ravi.
Rebecca Sarker plays his daughter, Nita, and Chris Bisson his son,
Vikram.
Jaffrey, who has appeared in Gandhi, A Passage to India and My
Beautiful Laundrette, said he wanted to join Coronation Street
because of its "wonderful scripts, beautiful characters, truthful
acting and magical twists".
