CARDIFF and Swansea were each fined GBP 150,000 last night for
three separate breaches of Welsh Rugby Union regulations.
The clubs were informed of the severe penalty following a two-
hour
meeting of the WRU's general committee in Cardiff.
Cardiff and Swansea were found guilty of playing cross-border
fixtures against England's top Premiership clubs together with
negotiating their own television contracts.
For each of the offences they were fined GBP 60,000, while a
further GBP 30,000 each was imposed for using unsanctioned referees
to control their controversial fixtures.
The clubs have until 28 February to pay the fines, although the
